I often hear my mother’s voice in my head saying, “When are you going to make art that’s happy?”.
What she means is – please make work that:

a) has color
b) isn’t about some tragedy you’ve survived
c) isn’t overtly political
d) doesn’t involve the plight of animals

Someday Mama. I promise….

Using my old twin lens Mamiya C 330 – I continue to work with the concept of the retablo as a way to document my experience working at an animal hospital and the often painful and always poignant attachments I form with the homeless animals. There is beauty in that, I think. This new work is dedicated to Tucker.
